June 21 2019 – Research study launched to gather feedback on the SASNOS
The authors of the SASNOS want to learn more about where, how and why the tool is used; it’s perceived benefits, and how it could potentially be modified/improved to further increase its usefulness to clinical and research practice.

May 22 2019 – Dr Claire Williams attends Parliamentary Lobbying Reception
As a committee member of the South Wales Acquired Brain Injury Forum, Dr Claire Williams attended a brain injury reception at The Speakers House in Parliament on 22ndMay 2019.
The United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Acquired Brain Injury are developing their response to the government’s feedback to the report; Acquired Brain Injury and Neurorehabilitation: Time for Changeand will be developing a strategy to take the recommendations forward.

March 07 2019 – New paper featuring the SASNOS!

In this paper we examine multiple methods to determine the responsiveness of four outcome measures routinely used in NbR (HoNOS-ABI, FIM + FAM UK, MPAI-4, SASNOS). We also examine the predictive validity of two measures of rehabilitation complexity (RCS-E, SRS) regarding the extent of difference scores on these outcome measures at reassessment. Recommendations are made regarding ideal characteristics of NbR outcome measures, along with the need to develop measures of rehabilitation complexity specifically conceptualized for these programmes.

February 05 2019 – New paper published using the Dutch version of the SASNOS
Colleagues in Denmark have just published new research using the SASNOS to investigate (1) the frequency of neurobehavioural disability rated by patients and proxies; (2) factors associated with neurobehavioural disability, and (3) the concordance between reports of neurobehavioural disability by patients and proxies.

December 15 2018 – Third Annual Brain Injury Conference Takes Place!
On 26 November 2018 our third annual conference took place in Swansea at the Marriott Hotel, bringing together some of the leading experts in acquired brain injury to present the latest developments in the management of neurobehavioural disability.

December 09 2017 – Second Annual Brain Injury Conference is a Huge Success
On 27 November 2017 our second annual conference took place in Swansea at the Marriott Hotel, bringing together some of the leading experts in acquired brain injury to present the latest developments in the management of challenging behaviour and social handicap after acquired brain injury.
In addition to an impressive ensemble of speakers, the conference attracted a range of exhibitors and over 100 delegates interested in and/or involved in the care of individuals with ABI. The conference provided an excellent learning environment for delegates to share knowledge and there were plenty of opportunities for questions and discussions, enabling further insights and debates to be aired. The whole event was full of energy and enthusiasm!

June 24 2017 – Conference is Live!
This year’s conference will take place on 27 November 2017 and will address “Neurobehavioural Disability after Acquired Brain Injury: Advances in the Management of Social Handicap”.
The conference will bring together leading experts in neurobehavioural rehabilitation to provide authoritative accounts of the latest developments in the management of challenging behaviour and social handicap.
Speakers will present state of the art reviews and describe the latest innovations regarding how social handicap can be minimised in the five domains of neurobehavioural disability captured by the St Andrew’s-Swansea Neurobehavioural Outcome Scale: interpersonal relationships, neurocognitive function, inhibition, aggression, and communication.

Following the success of our November 2016 conference on ‘Reducing the Burden of Neurobehavioural Disability after Acquired Brain Injury: Past, Present and Future’, we are pleased to announce that we have secured funding to hold another conference in November 2017. The programme for the event is shaping up nicely and the event is set to take place at the Swansea Marriott Hotel, Swansea. November 28 2016 – Reducing the Burden of Neurobehavioural Disability after Acquired Brain Injury: Past, Present and Future.
On the 28 November 2016, Swansea University and Partnerships in Care hosted a one-day conference at the Swansea Marriott Hotel.
The conference brought together some of the UK’s leading experts in acquired brain injury, presenting an exciting programme of talks on the conceptualisation, history and management of neurobehavioural disability.
Alongside keynote presentations from Professor Rodger Wood (Clinical Neuropsychologist and Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology, Swansea University) and Professor Tom McMillan (Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology, University of Glasgow), invited speakers comprised an impressive ensemble of clinicians and academics from across the UK.
The day also included a dedicated session on the use of St Andrews-Swansea Neurobehavioural Outcome Scale (SASNOS), providing delegates with valuable training to support ongoing clinical practice and research. The full conference programme can be accessed here.
With over 90 delegates in attendance and exhibitors from several key organisations, the day was a resounding success.
We thank the delegates, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors who attended and we look forward to hosting a similar event in 2017!
