New music video by Swansea Classics student Miranda Joy!

Swansea students in Classics, Ancient History and Egyptology have gone on to do some impressive and diverse things after graduation, some of which, on the face of it, have very little to do with the ancient world. One great example of this is London-based singer-songwriter Miranda Joy, whom we knew as Miranda Hall when she was an undergraduate in Classical Civilisation in our department in 2013-2016. One of the highlights of our 2016 study trip to Pompeii was Miranda singing to us in the Roman theatre there to demonstrate the quality of its acoustics! Not long after she graduated, Miranda’s song ‘The Fall’ was used in BBC coverage of the NFL Super Bowl, and she’s been releasing singles and gigging steadily ever since. Her fabulous work can be heard and seen on all good streaming platforms and YouTube.

Now, even in lock-down, Miranda has released a new music video for her song ‘London’ :

We can’t take any of the credit for Miranda’s success – that’s all down to her talent and hard work. But it does give us and opportunity to emphasise that our subjects teach you a range of skills that you can apply in all sorts of careers – they don’t limit your career choices, but they open horizons.
